An experimental study of porcelain color related to the various thickness of opaque and gingival porcelain in porcelain fused-to metal crown

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to observe the changes of color by the various thickness of opaque and gingival porcelain in porcelain fused-to metal crown.
The materials used in this study were Verabond of AALBA DENT industry and # 66 vacuum fired porcelain powder of Ceramco industry.
The tristimulus coordinates measurements of the samples were taken by photoelectric colorimeter(ND-1001DP type of DENSOKU industry in Japan) and the tristimulus coordinates were converted to Munsell¢¥s color notations.(Hue, Value, Chroma)
The results of this study were obtained as follows:
1. In opaque layer, value and chroma were increased according to the increasing thickness.
2. Hue was translated to Y range according to the increasing thickness of gingival porcelain.
3. Value and chroma were decreased and more stable as to diminutive influence of opaque according to the increasing thickness of gingival porcelain.
